| Chairs Chairs represent a unique challenge for the furniture maker as they add the issue of sitting comfort to the design considerations. Dimensions and proportion are vital when it comes to creating a visually pleasing design, but they become more important when the need to account for varying sizes and shapes which will sit on a piece of furniture comes into play. As a chair-order client, you will be asked to provide information about your dining table, or other surrounding furniture with which the chairs must be compatible. You will need to select upholstery for the slip seat cover Tom provides, which can be applied by our upholsterer, or after delivery, by an upholsterer of your choice. Also, you will of course need a general sense of a chair design you like - there are many options. The look of the legs, seat shape, back slat and crest rail can vary. However, being that chairs are very difficult to build there must be a viable combination when determining the form of these elements. Tom will work through these issues, as well as helping you select the type of finish you want. Pictured below is a selection of side and arm chairs Tom has made over the years. Nothing highlighted here is for sale, this is just to give you an idea of what can be done. (NOTE: Though they are not pictured here, we can make fully upholstered wing back chairs as well.) |
